Nine local architects joined colleagues from across the state at AIA Ohio Advocacy Day on April 30th. Amal Mahrouki introduced some basics of grassroots advocacy, as the AIA National Senior Director of State and Local Affairs. Sen. Bill Blessing (R-Colerain Township) and Rep. Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati) discussed bipartisan initiatives and future recommendations to address housing affordability. AIA Ohio’s lobbyist, Luther Liggett, reviewed our issue briefs supporting historic preservation tax credits (SB 96) and affordable housing (SB 28). We also presented our opposition to regulation changes proposed by OFCC that were included improperly in the state budget bill (HB 96). With 40 architects meeting with 32 senators, representatives, and aides, we promote our interests and help build a better world.
