COhatch Powell is a 15,000 SF mixed-use building located in Historic Downtown Powell. The wood-clad building creates a community gathering place that resonates with Powell’s scale and character while elevating the design to inspire civic pride. A mass timber structure was chosen to bring natural warmth, comfort, and durability—echoing the vernacular wooden buildings of the area. Occupying a 0.64-acre site on East Olentangy Street, the project replaces a dated office building and reorients development toward the street front to optimize land use. The design combines two levels of coworking space and private offices with a rooftop bar and restaurant featuring wraparound outdoor patios. These vantage points overlook both the lively downtown streets and the serene, wooded Bartholomew Creek to the north. The building melds small-town design sensitivity with emerging construction techniques and prefabrication processes to form a lasting landmark for COhatch and downtown Powell.
