Presented by Committee on Design

Join AIA Columbus for an in-depth tour of the award-winning Scioto Mile Fountain Transformation, recipient of a 2025 AIA Columbus Architecture Award. Located in the heart of downtown Columbus, the Scioto Mile Fountain has long served as a beloved civic gathering place and symbol of joy and connection within the city’s riverfront park system.

This revitalization reimagines the fountain plaza as an inclusive and dynamic public space that responds to the evolving needs of the community. The redesigned circular plaza encourages movement and social interaction, while new seating areas and shaded knolls create spaces for relaxation, gathering, and respite along the Scioto Mile.

The project carefully preserves and reinterprets the fountain’s iconic elements, including the Blossom and Halo structures. The Blossom is repositioned as the centerpiece with expressive water features that surprise and delight visitors, while the Halos form a fog-filled backdrop and introduce a gentler spray zone designed specifically for younger children. Seasonal programming extends the life of the space, transforming the fountain into a luminous winter installation.

The Design Architect is AECOM.

The event begins with a brief presentation at the Center for Architecture and Design, followed by a short walk (approximately ¼ mile) to the fountain.
