Committee on the Environment (COTE)
The objective of the Committee on the Environment (COTE) is to promote a sustainable environment by creating educational resources for AIA Columbus members and the public. COTE works to advance, disseminate, and advocate—to the profession, the building industry, the academy, and the public—design practices that integrate built and natural systems and enhance both the design quality and environmental performance of the built environment.
2017 Meeting Schedule:
The Committee on the Environment typically meets the 2nd Monday of every month from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at The Center for Architecture and Design, 50 West Town St., Suite 110, Columbus, OH 43215.

The AIA Columbus Technology in Architectural Practice committee is pleased to present "The Evolution of Practice: 2.0," a continuation of a series started in June 2013. This seminar will feature presentations from three prominent speakers within the technological community to provide insight and training for those looking to learn more about the transformation of practice through new educational methods, the scope of BIM, and the transformation of practice. Lunch is provided.

Scott Wing, AIA
Scott Wing, AIA is an architect and associate professor of architecture at Penn State where he has taught since 2000. His research interests include interdisciplinary collaborative learning through BIM, design-build teaching pedagogy and energy-efficient affordable design. His teaching responsibilities include design studio and building technology courses and he led the architecture design team for Penn State's award-winning 2007 Solar Decathlon house. He was awarded an NCARB Prize for Creative Integration of the Academy and Practice for his collaborative work on tribal housing and community buildings for the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Lame Deer, Montana. Prior to forming his own practice, Scott worked with Kieran Timberlake Architects and Mitchell-Giurgola Architects in Philadelphia.
David Goldberg, ASLA
David Goldberg is a practitioner instructor for the Department of Landscape Architecture at Penn State University. He is also the Technology Operations Manager for the Stuckeman School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. There is teaches course in design visualization, building information modeling, and geodesign. His research interests include optimizing the virtual and physical environments where interdisciplinary teams interact and developing techniques for creating and sharing model intelligence.
Anthony S. Hartke
Anthony Hartke is a VDC Preconstruction Engineer for the Turner Construction Company. Anthony began his career at Turner in 2010 as a Field Engineer/Assistant Superintendant in Columbus, OH on the $80 million Research Building III for Nationwide Children's Hospital. Soon thereafter, he took over all Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination responsibilities and began his journey down the BIM/Lean path. In 2010, he received the Jeff Beitel Leadership Award from Turner's Ohio Business Unit and in 2012 was promoted to his current position. He has led several initiatives within the Ohio Business Unit including the development of integrated electronic forms and the implementation of a peer-based rewards and recognition program.
Professionally, Anthony holds an ASHE Healthcare Construction Certificate (HCC) and is also a LEED Accredited Professional (AP BD+C). He serves on Columbus Ohio's German Village Historic Preservation Committee and is involved with the local Builder's Exchange (BX) where he assists their Young Professionals Group (BXYP) and has presented the topic of technology's use in construction. Anthony became involved in CURT in at the National Conference 2008 as a student volunteer, returned in 2009 as an Assistant Conference Director, and been part of CURT Young Professionals ever since.
Ryan Hullinger, AIA
Ryan has been instrumental in the design of several of NBBJ's most significant healthcare projects including two VA Regional Medical Centers and the Riverside Hospital Neuroscience Institute. In addition, Ryan led the design of the Miami Valley Heart and Orthopedic Center which has won numerous national design awards including the highest honors bestowed by Modern Healthcare in 2011 and Healthcare Design in 2012. With specific focus on enhanced clinical performance and adaptable hospital design, Ryan works to ensure that research-driven methodologies are at the center of NBBJ's design process. He has presented his research at conferences across the United States and has spoken abroad at presentations in Canada, New Zealand and the Middle East. His work has been profiled in leading design publications including Architectural Record, Metropolis, and Architect, as well as prominent engineering, construction and design journals including Building Design & Construction, Engineering News Record, and Healthcare Design. Ryan holds a Bachelor's degree from Ohio State University and a Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University.
